AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: This resort is set in a pristine habitat where the Catalina foothills give way to the Sonoran Desert. Towering saguaro cacti, coyotes, and great horned owls live in undisturbed harmony throughout the 93 acres. Sited to showcase an 80-foot waterfall, the resort’s distinctive exterior was created of massive stone blocks that came from the land on which it was built. The lobby features natural flagstone floors, profusions of orchids and birds of paradise, and a lounge with afternoon tea service. Views from the lobby and restaurants highlight a natural pond and the mountains. Guests include golf enthusiasts, couples seeking a serene weekend, and friends traveling together to enjoy the spa and Tucson’s outdoor and cultural attractions. Amenity highlights:Two Tom Fazio golf courses rise into the foothills, combining greens with islands of saguaro. The spa offers European and Asian-style treatments in eight treatment rooms, including two wet rooms with private showers. Signature treatments include the Lavender Dream Wrap and the Revitalizing Rosemary Mud Wrap. The main outdoor pool, a stylized “L” shape, looks out to the mountains. The second pool, next to the fitness center, offers lap swimming and aqua aerobics. The resort also has spa tubs, eight lighted tennis courts, and a 2˝ -mile par-course for walking or jogging. Guests have access to waterfall-dotted nature trails and guided horseback tours of the surrounding mountains and desert. Insider tip: When Loews was built, none of the 3,500 saguaros on the property were destroyed, and all riparian habitats, exceptionally rare in the desert, were preserved. Just outside the lobby, a collection of rocks and minerals highlights the area’s geology. When the resort opened in 1984, Architectural Digest praised it as “the first environmentally conceived resort in North America.”

Constructed around a natural, 80-foot waterfall, Loews Ventana Canyon Resort is a serene desert oasis with hiking trails, picnic spots, and bird feeders scattered throughout. The resort’s decor makes use of native copper, desert amethyst, and muted tones of mauve and sage to blend with the surrounding landscape. From one side of the rooftop observation deck, the city of Tucson stretches toward the horizon; from the other, the Catalina Mountains, fringed with saguaro and other desert vegetation, rise to the clear sky. Star talks are presented on the observation deck. The Ventana Room restaurant has dramatic views of three mountain ranges, the desert, and the lights of Tucson. The resort offers the Loews VIP (Very Important Pet) program, including a map of dog-walking routes, pet placemats and bowls, a room-service menu for dogs and cats, pet beds, and walking and sitting services.
